Fred Hutch Communications & Marketing is seeking an experienced full-stack developer to join our development team. The position assists in designing, scoping, implementing and supporting creative features that bolster the ability of center stakeholders to effectively use our content management system (CMS), applications and integrated backend services in support of our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases as causes of human suffering and death.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with UX, design and web development team members in designing, scoping and implementing new features, applications and systems on internal- and external-facing digital properties
  • Participate in code reviews, write tests and propose improvements to code
  • Act as custodian of DevOps strategies and practices for Adobe Experience Manager, our CMS used by more than 500 authors in support of a dozen digital properties
  • Build and own critical parts of the developer services stack; help developers to continuously and predictably deliver high-quality software for our team
  • Investigate areas for improvement in tool choice, software design and patterns for building highly resilient software in a continuous delivery world
  • Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with distributed teams and interdependent services
  • Build and evolve engineering processes to optimize developer and team efficiency
  • Partner with other teams across Fred Hutch to achieve common goals

Qualifications

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science or equivalent degree/experience
  • 4+ years of experience as a technical specialist or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience performing in a DevOps environment
  • Extensive experience building and delivering large-scale distributed systems
  • Up to date on Current Implementation/ Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) landscape
  • Proven knowledge of JavaScript, including the latest ES6 features
  • Experience with Apache (Apache Web Server)
  • Working knowledge of backend JavaScript API/web services development in Node.js
  • Demonstrated ability to write effective tests for full-stack JavaScript applications and services
  • Comfortable in a Linux shell and working knowledge of Git
  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)
  • Experience with SaaS frameworks and building microservices
  • Experience working in CSS/SCSS, HTML and React
  • Experience working in an Agile Development Environment

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • AEM-Certified Developer
  • Experience working with Java
  • Experience with Zurb Foundation
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting principles, and tools such as New Relic and Splunk
  • Experience with Webpack
  • Knowledge and experience with Elasticsearch
  • Experience with AWS Cloud Architecture
  • Knowledge of Docker
  • CI/CD experience (Jenkins, Bamboo)
  • Experience with GraphQL
  • Experience with databases (SQL)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; highly collaborative
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Confident under pressure and in meeting tight timelines
