The supervisor collaborates with the clinic nurse manager and nursing professional practice coordinators to assure the provision of high-quality, evidence-based patient and family-centered care by supervising nursing staff and supporting nursing practice. The primary role of this position is to support the Nurse Manager in the continuous daily operation and oversight of the Heme/Onc Clinic. This position provides direct patient care in addition to program development and supervisory responsibilities. In this role, the nursing supervisor will be able to perform all responsibilities of Heme/Onc Clinic RN (CNC) role and is able to clinically manage a patient case load when coverage is indicated.


The Heme/Onc Nursing Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day operations, quality assurance and setting the standards for the nursing care of hematology, oncology, and benign hematology patients during their longitudinal care at the SCCA. The supervisor conducts audits of Heme/Onc Clinic nursing practice data to evaluate compliance with standards under the direction of the Nurse Manager and supports initiatives related to compliance with regulatory requirements in the Heme/Onc clinic. In collaboration with SCCA’s quality department, the supervisor assists the nurse manager in investigation and response to incident reports filed in Patient Safety Net.


This position collaborates with medical leaders, peers and colleagues at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) as well as our partner institutions (Fred Hutch, UW Medical Center and Seattle Children's Hospital) to assure the provision of high quality, patient and family-centered care in an environment that facilitates the conduct of clinical research.



  • Directly supervises the CNCs and PPCs
  • Functions as a resource to CNCs for difficult or unusual cases
  • Fosters teamwork within the program
  • Performs all aspects of personnel management, including interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations, and compensation review
  • Monitors staff attendance and time off schedules
  • Regularly supports/conducts staff meetings with Nurse Manager and PPCs
  • Assists staff in prioritizing workloads
  • Supports the development and oversight of orientation and training plan for new employees.
  • Fosters development of continuing education materials and processes
  • Provides feedback to Nurse Manager regarding staff performance and program issues
  • Serves and participates on SCCA work teams and committees as appropriate



  • BSN or BA/BS in related field
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Washington
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven project management skills and committee experience
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills (EMR, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to work under pressure related to work/time deadlines
  • Ability to provide feedback about staff performance to staff
  • Strong teaching ability
  • Ability to lead committees


  • Master's degree in nursing or related field
  • Active specialty certification at the basis (RN) or advanced (APN) level with an SCCA-recognized certification
  • Supervisory experience
  • OCN certification
  • Outpatient experience
