The Industry Contract Manager is responsible for the legal, financial and administrative management of the industry sponsored research agreements for Fred Hutch. The position manages 1-2 contract specialists and is responsible for directing the work of contractors performing negotiations on behalf of the institution. The incumbent reports to the Associate VP of Clinical Research Support and works in close collaboration with the Office of General Counsel.


  • Manages program responsible for negotiating legal terms of all industry-supported clinical agreements for the institution
  • In partnership with the Office of General Counsel, maintains terms negotiation playbooks and standard accepted terms for all clinical trial-related agreements
  • Reviews, negotiates and advises on terms of clinical trial-related agreements with industry partners, including master agreements, multi-party agreements and flow-through terms of subcontracts
  • Manages staff and contract resources to ensure appropriate expertise and staffing levels to meet institutional needs
  • Strategize with Business Development and scientific leadership on development of agreements to support new industry partnerships
  • Collaborates with the Office of General Counsel, and Business Development and Strategy to identify institutional changes in practice due to local, state or federal regulatory, legislative, or policy changes
  • Ensures contract execution meets institutional and Consortium timelines
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Defines and reports Program metrics to Department and Center leadership; ensures data collection process and tools are in place
  • Ensures contract execution meets institutional and Consortium timelines
  • Defines short and long-term strategy and goals of Program based on institutional priorities, industry trends and changes in the regulatory landscape
  • Informs institutional leadership including, the Office of General Counsel of key drivers for process improvement efforts and proposes and implements changes to applicable policies and processes related to industry sponsored agreements
  • Develops and conducts training and reference materials as needed on industry sponsored agreement and financial administration for Senior Operations Directors


Experience and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years managing and negotiating industry-supported contracts, preferably in a healthcare or academic research setting
  • Leading staff and collaborating with teams across an organization
  • Working with academic institutions and private companies
  • Communicating with all levels of an organization
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams


Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency in work
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative
  • Understanding of clinical research and FDA regulations preferred
