Our ideal candidate will be an experienced HR business leader able to align HR services and expertise in support of organizational and people effectiveness in a dynamic and rewarding mission-focused environment. In this role you will lead a team of HRBPs and HR Generalists who act as the point-of-contact for employees at all levels, ensuring the successful delivery of programs, policies, culture and talent activities. This leader is responsible for elevating team performance, engagement and contributions by developing and implementing scalable practices, processes and tools. This role operates as both a collaborative strategist and a tactician with a strong focus on problem solving. You will be a trusted member of both the HR leadership team and leaders throughout the Fred Hutch organization. You and your team will work in collaboration with the HR Centers of Excellence to provide a high level of service by guiding and coaching employees on HR topics.

Responsibilities

  • This role is accountable for developing and executing HR strategies and operational plans that directly support the organization’s mission, vision, goals and objectives; aligns Business Partner team approaches with organizational culture and strategy
  • Partner with leaders as they develop business objectives and operational plans to define the related people enablers necessary to deliver desired outcomes; guide and support leaders and managers to bring the best experience and solutions to employees; build a strong and trusted relationship with internal client(s)
  • Serve as a steward of our philosophy, policies, practices and governance in handling employee matters; lead and manage sensitive employee relations topics including executive escalations; ensure equitable resolutions to employee issues, including unique situations where precedents for resolution are unavailable
  • Proactively identify issues, leverage resources, recommend solutions and ensure consistency across business functions; anticipate needs, diagnose problems, identify and drive appropriate solutions, and successfully collaborate across a matrix to deliver results
  • Execute the HR Business Partner team vision, by establishing goals and initiatives that align with organizational and operating unit goals/outcomes
  • Onboard new employees; expand training options for staff that create and maintain a skilled, committed and inclusive workforce
  • Measure Business Partner team standards, processes and practices to ensure they support, encourage and lead our continued evolution as well as effectively drive a positive employee experience
  • Apply critical thinking to ensure focus on the right things, using qualitative and quantitative data to measure success
  • Leverages the Centers of Excellence to provide comprehensive HR support to employees
  • Acts as a primary point of contact and liaison for leaders for specific business group(s)
  • Collect feedback and trends to evolve our practices and processes accordingly
  • Acts as a member of the HR Leadership team
  • Manages complex and difficult HR projects and issues cross-functionally
  • Champion HR initiatives in support of the organization
  • Coach and counsel managers and employees at all levels by serving as a confidential sounding board
  • Influences organizational members by motivating employees, demonstrating leadership, promoting communication, and by supporting a team philosophy
  • Supports workforce and succession planning
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional HR experience
  • 5+ years leading a team, preferably in a related industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Demonstrated experience in multiple disciplines of Human Resources and knowledge of relevant labor and employment law
  • Proven ability to work on topics that are complex and sensitive in nature where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations; comfortable working in ambiguous business situations
  • Ability to think strategically and translate concepts into actionable items; proven ability to identify, assess, diagnose needs & issues
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in a multicultural, professional environment; deliver difficult messages with professionalism and poise
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving, and discernment; strong contracting, coaching, influencing, and feedback skills; ability to influence decision making
  • Proficiency in mentoring employees and helping them expand their knowledge and influence within the company
  • Must be able to develop credible relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to strike the right balance between speed/flexibility and process compliance
  • Must be a confident communicator and capable of effectively presenting to all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated financial literacy and the ability to articulate the financial impact of HR decisions
  • Previous talent management and succession planning experience preferred
  • Strong expertise in developing solutions based upon anecdotal information/facts/data analytics
  • Experience working in healthcare and/or life sciences highly desirable
