The Gujral Lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has an opening for a postdoctoral fellow interested in studying the tumor microenvironment. Our lab combines approaches from molecular genetics with cell and systems biology to study the interactions between tumor cells and host cells in the tumor microenvironment.
Although progress has been made in the past several decades in understanding and developing treatments for cancer, there is still a huge unmet need for effective treatment to stop metastasis which accounts for 90% of deaths due to cancer. A major focus of our lab is to study how cancer cells and immune cells influence the growth and functions of each other in advanced stage solid tumors by integrating recently developed proteomics and computational methods with specific cellular system (Gujral et al., PNAS, 2014, Gujral et al., Cell, 2014.) In our lab, we leverage different data-driven approaches (e.g. Protein arrays, transcriptomic profiling, high throughput live cell imaging, screening tools) to inform the work of focused biology which utilizes conventional tools including transgenic murine models, molecular and biochemical approaches. The goal is to be able to study cell system as a whole and at microscopic levels in order to find solutions for cancer and other diseases.
