    Fred Hutch Communications & Marketing is seeking a proven, forward-thinking, tech- and UX-savvy Director of Digital Product Development to lead a team of web developers, TPMs and external vendors in building, optimizing and expanding its digital portfolio of websites, products, fundraising platforms and experience design efforts.


    This role requires vision, a relentless commitment to our mission, strong people-management skills and the strategic acumen to navigate growing demand for tools and platforms that drive engagement with our key audiences: scientific peers, philanthropic donors, business partners and clinical trial participants. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape a new type of product organization at Fred Hutch — working alongside incredible scientists, storytellers, product owners and UX designers to build new technology that supports the science, patients, partners and employees in our quest to prevent, treat and cure the world’s most devastating diseases.

    Responsibilities

    • Build, optimize and expand Fred Hutch’s digital communications and fundraising websites, platforms and products (internal and external)
    • Directly manage a web development team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (IT, UX, Content, Philanthropy, Marketing, etc.) and platform vendors to drive engagement
    • Drive development of new features and functionality that solve user and business needs
    • Manage and direct current, planned and backlogged project portfolio in alignment with resource plan
    • Manage and prioritize workflow to advance digital properties while balancing individual and team workloads
    • Budget for and articulate the benefits of platform upgrades, integrations and investments required to keep pace with rapidly advancing tech landscape and audience expectations
    • Provide coaching, direction, guidance and consultation to ensure continuous development of team members
    • Mentor and train platform users/CMS authors, raising the bar in both technical and non-technical aspects of platform utilization and expansion
    • Recommend and advocate for industry best practices to enhance and maintain existing deployments
    • Evangelize team offerings throughout the center via community outreach and training programs

    Qualifications

    Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science or equivalent degree/experience
    • 7+ years of experience in web development, application design, software engineering and/or technical product management
    • 5+ years of people management/leadership experience and proven track-record of building high-performing teams
    • Skilled at planning, prioritization and leadership of technical teams to achieve common goals
    • 5+ years of experience managing an application development team
    • 5+ years of experience working with UX and/or product teams
    • Experience with IT budgeting, network engineering, procedure development and process improvement
    • Demonstrated experience managing small- to enterprise-class software deployment
    • Demonstrated experience with analytics, testing and campaign instrumentation (UTM, GTM)
    • 5+ years of experience working in an Agile environment
    • Master’s in computer science preferred

     

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Extensive experience in responsive design, web accessibility, and microservices
    • Experience with HTML and CSS (including CSS preprocessing)
    • Experience with client-side and server-side JavaScript and JavaScript Frameworks
    • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager or similar enterprise CMS platforms
    • Experience solving for distributed authorship of platforms
    • Experience with Luminate Online or Blackbaud fundraising platform
    • Experience designing and developing modern web applications or leading teams that do so
    • Solid strategic, analytical, organizational, communication and presentation skills
    • Excellent judgment to influence product roadmap direction, features and priorities
    • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and agency partners
    • Exceptional attention to detail; highly collaborative; confident under pressure and in meeting tight timelines
    • Healthcare, life Sciences and/or non-profit experience
