    About Accounting

    The Accounting team has a wide range of responsibilities relating to all aspects Fred Hutch’s finances including financial reporting, policy setting, internal and data controls and transaction processing. The team works closely with multiple groups within Fred Hutch to ensure accurate and timely financial information.


    Job Description

    The Accounting Specialist II is an integral part of the Center’s Accounting team and performs cash management functions relating to all aspects the Center’s finances. This role’s main function is to deposit and record incoming payments. The position works closely with multiple groups within the Center to ensure accurately and timely recording of financial information. The position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for daily cash administration  
    • Review and prepare bank deposits in CashPro 
    • Record cash receipts in financial system 
    • Record customer payments in billing system and apply to customer accounts 
    • Review and process journal entries 
    • Respond to internal/external customer inquiries and requests for information 
    • Manage monthly A/R, bank and customer account reconciliations 
    • Review transactions and posting for compliance with established guidelines and policies 
    • Assists in financial management and analysis, as requested 
    • Assist in responding to auditor requests for reporting, documentation, or policies and procedures.  
    • Resolves problems in recurring assignments in accordance with previous training and experience 
    • Organizes and maintains retention files for required period of time 
    • Assist with ongoing maintenance and configuration of financial systems 
    • Perform other responsibilities as required, including occasional administrative and clerical tasks 

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required,
    • Minimum of two years bookkeeping, accounts receivable, cash collection, banking or financial experience 
    • Intermediate skills with MS Word, Excel, Outlook 
    • Person must be diligent and self motivated with attention to detail
    • Ability to consistently and accurately process transactions
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently
    • Must have excellent work habits, including organization and timeliness
    • Should have strong interpersonal communication skills and desire to work in team-oriented environments 

     

    Preferred:

    • College level accounting classes or Accounting or related Degree
    • Experience with PeopleSoft a plus
    • Experience with non-profit or research a plus
