The Tapscott Lab is composed of an interactive group of scientists investigating lineage specification and cell differentiation. The lab focuses on gene transcription in a chromatin context in normal development and disease. Areas of research include gene expression in cell culture models of cell specification and differentiation that includes myogenesis, neurogenesis, and pluripotent stem cells to identify the molecular bases of totipotency, pluripotency, specification, and differentiation. Models derived from these developmental systems are applied to understand human diseases, including cancers and degenerative diseases.
Research technicians are responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries. Job duties include:
Research Technician I: Bachelor’s degree in biology or related fields is required. Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills. Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is required.
Research Technician II: Bachelor’s degree in biology or related fields and two years of professional research experience working in a laboratory. A master's degree may, in some cases, substitute for two years of post-graduation lab experience.
A successful candidate will have scientific curiosity, a high level of self-motivation, the ability to take instruction and correction and to follow directions, good organizational skills and the ability to work and think independently. The candidate must have a track record of reliability and good verbal and written communication skills. This is an ideal position for a recent graduate who wants to gain an intense research experience before pursuing graduate school.
