The Fred Hutch core center for excellence in hematology vector production and development facility assists researchers in the production of viral vector preparations for use in research experiments in their laboratories. The position involves managing the research viral vector core facility, driving vector development and application of new viral manufacturing processes as well as training and supervision of core technicians to ensure the facilities performance standards are met.
The manager is responsible for keeping the facility equipment operational and ensuring safety during production in accordance to Fred Hutch and NIH guidelines. The position involves ensuring all consumables and other supplies needed for vector production are available and that orders of such products by the core are billed correctly. Another responsibility is organizing and overseeing storage of cell lines and plasmids used by the facility as well as storage of final viral products.
The position requires the manager to maintain and archive production records of the viral products generated and tested. This includes documentation of client work-orders filed with the vector core as well as creating and passing on billing information to Fred Hutch Shared Resources Billing to ensure proper charge of services provided by the core.
The manager is responsible for assembling and providing data on vector production volume and development progress for reports to the funding agency. The position also includes performing client consulting services in terms of viral vector design and choice of preparation possibilities offered by the core in order to plan and develop transfer vectors fitting individual project requirements.
The position requires a PhD degree in an appropriate and laboratory intensive scientific field with a minimum of at least 2 years additional productive work experience in a research laboratory that includes specific experience in constructing new recombinant DNA molecules. Required educational expertise is strong background in the fields of genetics, virology as well as cell- and microbiology.
Detailed understanding of viral gene delivery systems and experience in design and testing of DNA vectors is required. Furthermore a qualified researcher should have technical expertise in mammalian tissue culture, recombinant DNA technology, molecular cloning, viral vector production, flow cytometry, DNA gel electrophoresis and PCR methods including real time PCR.
