  • Overview

    The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.



    Responsible for overall delivery of research operations at both Network Affiliate and Community Sites which are supported by SCCA Research Integration.

    • Participate in the development and execution of research strategy for both Network Affiliate and Community Sites.
    • Responsible for supporting the development of policies and procedures that detail roles and responsibilities of various institutions and programs including but not limited to (1) SCCA clinical operations staff, (2) SCCA staff from other departments who provide research related services to SCCA and affiliate institutions, and (3) Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center or University of Washington departments that collaborate on research.
    • Responsible for working with faculty and staff from UW/Fred Hutch Cancer Consortium disease site programs to operationalize and integrate clinical trials at both Network Affiliate and/or Community Sites. This work includes but is not limited to trial implementation, operational support, and study specific processes.
    • Work in collaboration with other Research Integration leaders and staff to execute the research mission of SCCA and support the Associate Directors and Director in all RI initiatives.



    Reports to the Associate Director of Research Integration and in close collaboration with the Director of Research Integration. Also works closely with other Research Integration leaders, SCCA leadership, Principal Investigators, UW/FH research staff and other SCCA / Fred Hutch / UW Medical Center staff. Must have the flexibility and managerial commitment to work collaboratively with study sponsors, SCCA partners and external stakeholders as applicable.

    • Familiarity using a clinical trial management system (e.g. OnCore, Velos, CREDIT) to administer a research program.



    • Implement and manage strategic planning and general administration of SCCA research Operations in partnership with clinical operations, investigators and consortium research staff.
    • Collaborate with SCCA Community and Network leadership, Fred Hutch/UW faculty members, and Fred Hutch/UW partner institutions to establish and track the impact of the SCCA Research Integration goals for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Lead and oversee efforts within the research operations team around the implementation, conduct and protocol adherence at both Network Affiliate and Community Sites.
    • Identify resource needs to promote the research objectives of the SCCA Research Integration Department.
    • Directly contribute to and manage creation of research reports and presentations, including drafting the findings report and presentation. Collaborate with team on key research talking points.
    • Manage day to day activities of SCCA clinical research operations staff to complete research projects within designated timeframes; Manage personnel issues such as hiring, on-boarding, review/goal setting and performance management.
    • Identify and develop continued process improvement methodology for efficiency and efficacy in all clinical research operations activities.
    • Respond to queries from disease site programs, member institutions and pharmaceutical company sponsors.
    • Cultivate relationships with Fred Hutch/UW research leaders, principal investigators, disease site programs and pharmaceutical company sponsors for the purpose of identifying and developing clinical research projects appropriate for Network Affiliate and/or Community Sites.
    • Collaborate with appropriate personnel of partner institutions (Fred Hutch /UW/SCCA) to establish procedures for timely and effective implementation of research projects.


    Minimum Education

    • Bachelor Degree and 2 years industry related experience OR;
    • Associates degree and 4 years of industry related experience


    Minimum Experience

    • 1-3 years’ experience in managing employees including performance and day to day operational oversight
    • Experience in oncology research preferred
    • Proficiency in IRB, HIPAA, and FDA regulatory requirements and GCP guidelines for the conduct of clinical research trials


    Minimum Field of Expertise - Healthcare setting or Hospital based Cancer Center preferred

    Physical Demands - Mostly sedentary work

    Skills: Computer - Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and working with EHRs

    Skills: Administrative - Strong analytic skills and ability to use excel spreadsheets to conduct analyses
