    The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

    The Quality Improvement Specialist for Medication Safety supports the development of the Medication Safety and Drug Diversion Prevention Program. This role is responsible for system and process evaluation, formulation of recommendations, coordination of intervention strategies, and monitoring of reports/data related to medication safety and drug diversion.


    • Reviews all medication related Patient Safety Net reports and escalates trends and concerns; prepares this data for review at Medication Safety Committee
    • Participates in the development of safe medication practices to prevent errors through investigation of medication safety related concerns. Works proactively with pharmacy staff, nursing staff, and providers to resolve medication safety related concerns.
    • Acts as a consultant to teams in identifying risk reduction and improvement opportunities. Works collaboratively to develop improvement projects
    • Participates in appropriate committees (P&T, Medication Safety, etc.) and ensures loop back to Medication Safety Committee of applicable decisions
    • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Maintain an effective drug diversion education program for all staff and providers as appropriate for their work responsibilities
    • Maintain a comprehensive surveillance and auditing program to detect drug diversion
    • Supports investigations for suspected diversions with gathering, auditing, and presenting applicable data and recommendations to the Medication Safety Manager
    • Supports the development of policies and procedures for the Drug Diversion and Medication Safety programs
    • Researches medication safety and drug diversion prevention best practices, national and regional benchmarks, and industry standards, and makes recommendations for the Medication Safety and Drug Diversion programs
    • Works with data analytics to develop data visualization dashboards to track metrics, develop benchmarks, and report out compliance/areas of opportunity



    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Required
    • 3 years healthcare experience
    • Knowledge of medication related processes for pharmacy and nursing
    • Ability to work with people at all organizational levels and influence change
    • Proficient user of Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint, Visio)
    • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
    • Ability to excel in a team environment while operating with individual autonomy


    • Master’s degree in Nursing
    • Experience with High Reliability and HPI methodology
    • Experience in development of spreadsheets, data displays, presentation materials and graphics
    • Experience in data visualization software (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.)
    • Knowledge of general principles of medication use safety, culture of safety, medication error reporting systems, systems thinking, and human factors
