A postdoctoral research position in molecular epidemiology with focus on multi-omics approaches in ethnically diverse populations is available at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Hutchinson Center provides a challenging academic and supportive multi-disciplinary research environment.
We are seeking a recent or prospective doctoral graduate (Ph.D. or equivalent qualification) with a background in Epidemiology and related subject areas. This could include, but is not limited to, training in quantitative genetics, bioinformatics with training in quantitative science, statistical genetics, or a closely related field (please note that this is NOT a laboratory-based position).
The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with Drs. Charles Kooperberg and Ulrike Peters on analyzing large-scale multi-omics data, including gene expression/RNA sequencing, genotyping/DNA sequencing, methylation and metabolomic data from diverse participants. Participants are enrolled in large cohort studies as well as Biobanks with detailed electronic health record data as part of the Population Architecture using Genetics and Epidemiology (PAGE) consortium and phenotyped for multiple outcomes, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, type 2 diabetes, blood traits, anthropometric traits and intermediate biomarkers, such as lipids, glucose, insulin or inflammatory markers. The successful applicant will work on multidisciplinary research teams to perform data analyses, develop and/or implement novel statistical methodology, and publish research results. The incumbent will be expected to work independently to complete data analysis. In addition, they will have numerous opportunities to present results at local and PAGE meetings as well as national meetings.
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required with background in epidemiology, quantitative/statistical genetics, bioinformatics or a closely related field. Expertise in computational methods for the analysis of complex, high-dimensional data is desirable, as is a thorough knowledge of high dimensional data resources (such as GTEx, or ENCODE). The position requires a highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
