    A research technician position (full-time) is immediately available in a laboratory within Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s Translational Research Program. The Laboratory for the Study of Metastatic Microenvironments focuses on understanding the biology underlying disseminated tumor cell (DTC) dormancy and formulating therapeutic means to eradicate dormant DTCs.

    We are looking for a dynamic, bright, highly organized, and highly motivated individual with strong interest in microsurgery and imaging, who will be responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research. This will include working with murine models to prepare them for intravital imaging, and piloting these imaging sessions.


    This position will work under the Principal Investigator and work with postdoctoral fellows in the lab. The individual will use discretion and judgment in carrying out the following job duties:

    • Perform small animal surgeries to prepare for intravital imaging. These include cranial window implantation and abdominal window implantation.
    • Prepare and monitor animals during and after surgeries (including weekends), and during live imaging sessions.
    • Establish optimal settings to acquire high-resolution videos from said imaging sessions.
    • Breed a number of transgenic strains, genotype offspring and take meticulous note of resulting genotypes/phenotypes.
    • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
    • Perform statistical analyses and write computer programs to analyze data.
    • Perform other duties as required.


    • A bachelor’s degree in bioengineering, biophysics or biological sciences and at least one-year experience in basic laboratory skills is required
    • Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is strongly desired
    • The ideal candidate will be meticulous, self-driven, enthusiastic, well-organized, and excited to learn and conduct new surgical techniques
