    The Accounting team has a wide range of responsibilities relating to all aspects Fred Hutch’s finances including financial reporting, policy setting, internal and data controls and transaction processing. The team works closely with multiple groups within Fred Hutch to ensure accurate and timely financial information.


    The Accounting Specialist II is an integral part of the Center’s Accounting team and performs a variety of functions including tracking and posting all journal entries and recording other Center transactions as part of the month-end close. This role’s also handles customer service questions and coordinates the monthly close calendar. The position reports directly to the Assistant Controller.


    • Prepare and record journal entries for various monthly transactions
    • Review and process manual journal entries
    • Provide training and assistance to new online journal entry preparers
    • Respond to internal/external customer inquiries and requests for information
    • Review transactions and posting for compliance with established guidelines and policies
    • Assists in financial management and analysis, as requested
    • Assist in responding to auditor requests for reporting, documentation, or policies and procedures.
    • Resolves problems in recurring assignments in accordance with previous training and experience
    • Organizes and maintains retention files for required period of time
    • Coordinate and track study participant and providing funds to custodians.
    • Perform other responsibilities as required, including occasional administrative and clerical tasks


    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required, college level accounting classes or Accounting Degree preferred
    • Minimum of two years bookkeeping, accounts receivable, cash collection or financial experience
    • Intermediate skills with MS Word, Excel, Outlook
    • Experience with PeopleSoft a plus
    • Experience with non-profit or research a plus
    • Person must be diligent and self motivated with attention to detail
    • Ability to consistently and accurately process transactions.
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently
    • Must have excellent work habits, including organization and timeliness
    • Should have strong interpersonal communication skills and desire to work in team-oriented environments
