    The Prevention Center is seeking an advanced practice provider (APP; can be either physician assistant or nurse practitioner) to work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team performing clinical procedures. This position is an hourly, as needed basis, to provide back up for the staff APP. Under the direction of the Prevention Center Medical Director, Lead Practitioner and the Administrative Manager, the APP is responsible for maintaining strict adherence to Washington State and institutional standards and practices in performing requested activities of the Research Clinic (RC) and client study protocols. Performs daily clinical research tasks and other protocol dictated activities in support of RC client studies, and supervise activities performed by medical assistants.


    NOTE: This is an hourly, on-call role. Estimated hours are 5-15 hours per month


    • Perform in accordance with study protocols medically indicated steps which are at an advanced practitioner level. This may include such procedures as determining medical fitness of study participants according to their research protocols, physical examinations, medical fat biopsies, IV needle placement, blood draw from peripheral sites, muscle biopsies, endometrial and breast aspirates, and proper documentation of and timing of research-related procedures in source files
    • Supervise and assist medical assistants as required, and assist exercise specialist with study VO2 max/submax procedures
    • Maintain current knowledge of and adherence to research protocols, standard operating procedures, and any protocol deviation documentation. May update concomitant medications and adverse events documentation in research files
    • Maintain open communication with research coordinators and investigators to provide and accept feedback, concerns, and status updates as needed
    • Ensure daily operations of facility are managed per SOPs, makes accommodations for work outside regular hours of operation
    • Maintain continuing education credits, ACLS certification and credentialing requirements to perform in accord with Washington state Department of Health quality assurance, Center and IRB standards
    • Attend regular PC meetings if possible, to keep current on new developments in Shared Resources or the PC and to review and monitor the client service activities of the RC
    • Maintain open communication with the PC Administrative Manager to assure the coordination of resource services and representation of the RC activities in all Prevention Center reporting


    • Physician Assistant or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in medical practice with current Washington State license
    • Minimum of two years experience in clinical practice
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Some experience in a research environment preferred
    • Must have demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and manage changing priorities with excellent attention to detail
