    Responsibilities

    The Stem Cell and Gene Therapy (SCGT) program at Fred Hutch is recruiting a Research Technician I/II, with a focus on both lab manager and bench research duties. Lab manager duties will be geared towards ensuring smooth daily operations of a large research group. These include maintaining inventories of reagents, collecting and placing material orders, and distributing products upon arrival. They will also assist and coordinate in managing regulatory documentation for the research group including animal care documentation (IACUC), review board approvals (IRB), and lab safety protocols. Bench research experiments will support multiple projects within the laboratory, under the supervision of senior laboratory staff and the PI. Duties may include processing and analysis of primary blood and tissue samples for flow cytometry, PCR-based analysis of cell populations, sterile cell culture work with cell lines and primary cells including hematopoietic stem cells, and ELISA assays. The candidate must also be comfortable working with potentially infectious material and biosafety level 2+ techniques.

    Qualifications

    A BS degree in molecular/cellular biology or other related scientific fields is preferred. The individual must possess knowledge of basic biological and molecular assays and experience with performing these techniques. Experience is preferred in one or more of the following areas: hematopoietic stem cell cultures/model systems, in vivo gene therapy studies, flow cytometry/flow-assisted cell sorting, and/or molecular biology techniques e.g. quantitative PCR. Knowledge or experience maintaining and ordering materials is preferred in addition to excellent record keeping skills. The ideal candidate would be familiar with computer programs including Microsoft Office, FlowJo, Graphpad Prism, online spreadsheet sharing documentation, and/or similar products.

     

    To be successful in this position, the candidate must be highly motivated, execute experiments, possess a great attention to detail, and must also be able to multi-task and prioritize work at short notice.
