    Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer.     The Hutch Data Commonwealth (HDC) is a small, collaborative team within the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The team is made up of engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers who work together to make software that helps researchers as they seek curative therapies for cancer and infectious diseases.


    • Collaborate with product management, engineering, clients, and end-users to define and implement innovative product solutions
    • Execute all design stages from concept to final hand-off to engineering
    • Communicate interaction and design ideas through whiteboarding, sketches, wireframes, storyboards, prototypes, and user flows
    • Identify design problems and devise elegant, implementable solutions
    • Take a user-centered approach to complex design problems
    • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders
    • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and standards
    • Provide thought leadership in user experience and user-centered design
    • Mentor and guide less senior employees, interns, or co-ops students
    • Conduct & facilitate requirements, design, and implementation reviews


    • Demonstrable design skills with a strong portfolio of successfully launched web, mobile, and/or software applications.
    • Three-to five-years of work experience in UX/UI role
    • Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, and user flows
    • Expertise in screen design and prototyping software like Sketch, Framer, InVision, Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, Figma, or similar
    • Passionate about understanding (and keeping the team and clients informed about) current and emerging UX/UI trends
    • Fluent in responsive design, mobile/tablet UI UX
    • Proficient in accessible design
    • BS/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or related
    • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
    • Experience directing ongoing usability testing and assessment
    • Experience conducting requirements, design, and implementation reviews
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • A love of learning new technologies



    • Proficiency HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for rapid prototyping
    • Experience creating, implementing, and defending a design system
