    Responsibilities

    The laboratory of Dr. Harlan Robins, Head of Computational Biology, is recruiting a research manager to study the interaction between the adaptive immune system and cancer. The incumbent will be responsible for design and implementation of major experimental projects essential to the laboratory's scientific research goals.  We are looking for an individual that has developed an extensive and specialized knowledge of the scientific principles, concepts and technology related to the laboratory's research.

    Dr. Robins focuses on the quantitative analysis of the adaptive immune system. His approach takes advantage of new high-throughput sequencing technology developed by Dr. Robins and his collaborators. His group is isolating and sequencing millions of adaptive immune receptor rearrangements to profile the adaptive immune system. With this new technology, he is working toward a comprehensive description of the T-cell repertoire and studying the dynamics of immune response. He is applying this technology in multiple clinical settings including HSC transplant and cancer immunotherapy.

    The research manager will evaluate the effectiveness of specific methods and procedures for particular projects, prepare scientific papers and presentations and work independently with the guidance of Dr. Robins in establishing and accomplishing the goals of the laboratory.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Is independently responsible and accountable for design and implementation of a major project related to the research goals of the lab
    • Maintains communication with others in the scientific community regarding issues related to both the general project area and the specific research project
    • Utilizes literature reviews, protocols, networking and prior laboratory experience to determine the most suitable methods and resources to be used in research
    • Summarize and write for publication or presentation the results of research projects, often as co-author or author. Write and edit reports of research
    • Responsible for the daily operation of the laboratory; may lead or supervise other laboratory personnel

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in biological science or a related scientific field (Master’s preferred)
    • 5+ years of related experience
    • Experience with PBMC isolation from whole blood, sterile culture of primary eukaryotic cells, fluorescence microscopy, RNA/DNA isolation, qPCR, cloning techniques, and multiparametric flow cytometry
    • Diligence, and meticulous attention to detail in experimentation and record keeping
    • Proven ability and knowledge necessary to conduct research independently
    • Work well in team environments; strong communication/organization skills; detail-oriented
    • Experience with high performance computing environments and cloud computing environments is a plus
