    The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.


    The Clinical Lab Technician II performs laboratory procedures and related tasks such as preparing specimens, performing calculations and routine tests, maintaining specimen inventory and databases, mixing chemicals, and operating and performing maintenance on laboratory equipment. This position may assist technologists or research technicians with laboratory projects. The Clinical Lab Technician II works under the supervision or the Lab Supervisor and Manager in order to support clinical laboratory testing and/or research.


    • Process/prepare biological specimens such as peripheral blood, bone marrow, buccal/saliva or other tissue samples for clinical testing and/or research.
    • Freeze, store and ship specimens as required.
    • Inventory processed specimens into the lab information management system, inventory databases or paper records as appropriate.
    • Aliquot reagents, prepare solutions, stock supplies, and remove biohazard waste from lab areas.
    • Monitor and maintain equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, centrifuges, and water baths.
    • Set up and calibrate laboratory instruments; prepare calibration reagents, record and tabulate instrument data; and keep records.
    • Consult with technologists, supervisor and/or manager regarding problematic samples.
    • Perform related duties as required.



    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Computer/keyboard proficiency.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Manual computation skills.
    • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner.
    • Ability to work under high pressure in a fast-paced laboratory environment.


    • Some college course work emphasizing laboratory science
    • Proficiency in laboratory information systems
    • Knowledge of clinical trial operations
    • Experience in a clinical Cytogenetics laboratory
