At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. The Hutch Data Commonwealth (HDC), a new organization within the Center, has a mission to develop new capabilities to facilitate scientists’ interactions with large and complex data sets, enabling novel approaches in cancer research. The HDC Software Development team works with product management and data scientists to provide the Hutch research community with flexible, extensible, programmatic and interactive access to relevant datasets, analytical tools and visualization toolkits.
