    Under the direction of the Exercise Research Center (ERC) manager, responsible for implementing exercise intervention protocols for study participants in accord with client study protocols. Within established study protocols, will design safe and effective individual exercise programs as prescribed by the client study intervention, based upon human performance testing. Will supervise exercise sessions in accordance with American College of Sports Medicine guidelines. Will also assist with graded exercise testing and other exercise measurements. The incumbent works under general supervision. Uses judgment in performing routine responsibilities within the framework of program/study protocol, policies and procedures.

     

    NOTE: This is a part-time position, anticipated 8-12 hours per week. Desired hours are flexible but are roughly M/W/F or T/Th from 4-7:30p. 

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise exercise training sessions for study participants, in accordance with ACSM guidelines.
    • Collect research data from study participants and transfer data to study database in a timely and efficient manner, according to study protocol.
    • Design safe and effective individual exercise prescriptions, monitor and document progression of study participants within parameters of standardized study protocol.
    • Deliver and track exercise education sessions for study participants.
    • Monitor and track adherence to study exercise goals and report the same to client study coordinator.
    • Maintain accurate records of exercise sessions and report to the ERC manager for accurate billing to study clients.
    • Maintain regular telephone or email contact with study participants to encourage compliance to study goals. Report participant adherence issues to Study Coordinator and Intervention team.
    • Communicate with ERC manager regarding issues pertaining to exercise testing, exercise sessions, and participant compliance and data management.
    • Assist with screening and VO2 max/submax testing as needed.
    • Assist with indirect calorimetry testing as needed.
    • Responsible for keeping a clean and sanitary environment; includes wiping down exercise machines, laundering towels, and tidying locker rooms.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Minimum of Bachelors degree in exercise science or physical education.
    • Minimum of 2 years experience performing exercise prescription and testing with adults
    • Current certification in CPR and AED required (ACLS preferred)
    • Must exhibit dependability and willingness to work as part of a team
    • Excellent interpersonal and strong organizational skills.
    • Willingness to work varied hours in the afternoon and early evenings, 6-12 hours per week.

    Preferred:

    • Experience working with adults with cancer and other disease 
    • ACSM or ACE certification preferred
    • Familiarity with intervention studies
