Overview

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

Responsibilities

  • Performs cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetics procedures related to diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment follow-up of disease, or uses similar techniques to monitor study participants. Involves operating scientific equipment, microscope analysis and image analysis, compiling and verifying the accuracy of clinical data; performing calculations, preparing charts, graphs, summaries and patient reports. Oversees others in these activities.
  • Oversee clinical testing performed by the Cytogenetics Laboratory, May lead or supervise other laboratory personnel and oversee operations, including specimen preparation, staining, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), analysis, reporting, review of specimen preparation and test requests, determination of case priority, and assignment of cases.
  • Works independently under the guidance of and in conjunction with the Laboratory Director and Manager/Supervisor, in accomplishing the goals of the laboratory.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related scientific field required
  • Master’s degree in related field beneficial
  • Senior level position requiring extensive experience in a cytogenetics laboratory, minimum 8 years’ experience
  • Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics or Molecular Biology by ASCP is required
  • Advanced knowledge of cancer Cytogenetics and related diagnostic testing 
  • Solid leadership skills required; prior experience in similar roles highly desirable
  • Classification as Lab Supervisor may be considered with excellent qualification
