    The Experimental Histopathology Shared Resources laboratory is recruiting a Research Histotechnician to provide routine and customized immunohistochemistry support for Fred Hutch research efforts. The incumbent will assist with the design of innovative protocols in a customer service based, team oriented work environment.

    Responsibilities

    The Experimental Histopathology Shared Resources laboratory is recruiting a Research Histotechnician to provide routine and customized immunohistochemistry support for Fred Hutch research efforts. The incumbent will assist with the design of innovative protocols in a customer service based, team oriented work environment.

     

    Specific responsibilities include:

    • Perform routine and customized/complex immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, on an automated platform as well as routine and special stains histology
    • Assist in the vetting of antibodies to be used for specific applications
    • Assist in establishing, optimizing, and customizing histology procedures for fixing, processing, sectioning, staining, and reagent preparation to support immunohistochemistry projects
    • Research, troubleshoot, and test new reagents
    • Optimize antigen retrieval conditions, blocking, detection, and titer to ensure ideal staining conditions for antibodies
    • Work independently as an immunohistochemistry and histology resource for researchers to assist with preparation of their protocols
    • Assist in the development of multispectral immunofluorescent staining to support immuno-oncology and other research goals
    • Participate in group meetings with laboratory staff and researchers to discuss experimental design that will meet research goals
    • Accurately log-in, label, organize, and track specimens
    • Maintain inventory and order supplies, as necessary
    • Prepare reagents from detailed laboratory procedures and document performance against quality control standards
    • Assist in the design and writing of laboratory protocols for all procedures
    • Perform routine maintenance on immunohistochemistry, imaging, and other laboratory equipment
    • Assist in organizing work and storage space and general lab upkeep
    • Perform routine and specialized histology support as needed
    • Perform other duties, as assigned

    In order to meet coverage requirements and provide excellent service to our investigators, this position will work during hours scheduled between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

    • The minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree with 3-4 years of relevant Histology/Pathology experience
    • HT or HTL (ASCP) Certification plus one additional certification in immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, necropsy, digital image analysis or demonstrate mastery of technique
    • Advanced knowledge in imaging, microscopy and image analysis.
    • This position will work hours scheduled between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.

     

    The successful technologist must be able to work accurately and efficiently, be detail oriented, and work both independently and within a group. Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills are required. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work positively in a customer oriented environment. In addition, the incumbent must be flexible and skilled at organizing and prioritizing tasks. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Internet Explorer is desirable.
