Our lab studies the interface between the immune system, tumor cells, and their environment during the earliest moments of cancer metastasis. We place a strong emphasis on understanding thein vivo response through techniques such as intravital 2-photon microscopy, flow cytometry, and single cell RNAseq. Individuals hired for this position would be responsible for performing supervised experiments in our laboratory in support of projects being coordinated by senior staff. Additionally, based on merit potential exists for individual research projects. Specific duties would include animal handling and genotyping, microscopy, flow cytometry, tissue culture, data analysis, and lab management. Prior experience (specifically in the areas of immunology or tumor biology) is a large plus but on the job training in all specific tasks will be provided. The work to be performed requires at minimum a Bachelor's degree in a biosciences area as well as 2 years prior experience at the Research Technician I level or equivalent. Responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries.

Responsibilities

Works under the direction of the Principal Investigator or higher-level laboratory personnel. Potential for independent research projects dependent on demonstrated merit and acumen. Uses discretion and judgment in performance of duties.

 

JOB DUTIES

 

Performs the duties of the Research Technician I position plus:

 

  1. Identify methodological problems in research protocol and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.

 

  1. Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data. 

 

  1. Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects. 

 

  1. Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research. 

 

  1. Assist in publication of results by proofreading, editing, and contributing ideas. 

 

  1. May perform statistical analyses, write computer programs, or manage research data base. 

 

  1. Will assist in training new hires and managing lower level staff

Qualifications

Intermediate level position requiring 2 years previous experience working in a laboratory and  BA/BS. Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is usually necessary.

 

Preferred experience:

Prior experience with murine models, flow cytometry, and lab organizational tasks.
