With direction, the Software Development Engineer II role is to provide software solutions where no optimal software solutions exist to support the mission of Fred Hutch.


The Software Development Engineer II reports to the Software Development Engineer Manager or Director.


  • Develop software features and reports
  • Test & debug new and modified software
  • Assist in the analysis of application requirements as requested
  • Assist in the design of applications to meet user specifications
  • Create and maintain documentation
  • Assist in creation of application architecture and design for small projects
  • Provide Tier 2 Support of software, troubleshoot user problems
  • Collaborate with other members of IT staff and end users
  • Follow software development best practices
  • Participate in code and design reviews
  • Perform other responsibilities as required
  • Maintain knowledge and follow department specific project management methodologies
  • May require on-call support


  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field desired
  • Minimum of 2 years professional software development experience
  • Programming in C# and/or Java
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills
  • UI Development experience using JavaScript or other client side scripting is a plus
  • Enjoys working in a team environment and has a proven record of positive contributions to the work of the team
  • Knowledge of relational databases and T-SQL
  • Solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming concepts, data structures and algorithms
  • Demonstrated presentation skills
