We are seeking an experienced Product Manager/Product Owner to join our data platform team supporting the integration, management, security, discovery, and analysis of multiple data types into services and products for cancer research. In this position, you will be responsible for driving and defining the launch of new data platform services to support a variety of Fred Hutch cancer research endeavors. You should have a solid grasp on software as a service, clinical, genomic, or specimen management or analysis, and a passion for data in order to deliver high impact infrastructure products to accelerate cancer research.


  • Work with stakeholders and team members to develop high quality user stories and mock-ups for engineering scrum teams.
  • Create and maintain backlog and roadmap for product. Update and communicate changes regularly to team and to stakeholders.
  • Regularly communicate to team and organization the value that new data management technologies bring to users and to the Fred Hutch mission.
  • Work with end-users to manage expectations, provide training, answer questions, triage support tickets, and document and prioritize new feature requests.
  • Be part of team ceremonies, understand progress and challenges, provide input from the product perspective, and help remove any obstacles. Maintain clarity and momentum in the process.
  • Author product documents, samples, demos, and other user readiness materials.
  • Regularly present feature demos to users to solicit feedback.
  • Identify user and sponsor personas, user needs, and work with UX/UI team to develop product interaction, and look/feel.
  • Create buy-in for product/portfolio vision internally and externally.
  • Conduct interviews, coordinate focus groups, and attend steering committees, etc. with scientific or technical thought leaders to identify or refine opportunities.
  • Stay up-to-date with the evolving scientific landscape in commercial and academic domains.
  • Inspire teams, set measurable goals, and facilitate urgency and creativity. Keep the teams focused on creating value for our researchers and releasing impactful features.
  • For each project/iteration, define what success means, develop metrics, analyze impact and user feedback, and communicate the outcomes, learnings, and next steps to the broader organization.
  • Act as a thought leader and expert on data management and data integration technologies.
  • Complete strategic plans for data management based on Fred Hutch strategic plan


  • Strong desire to help scientists see and understand data, work on some of the toughest challenges in the data landscape to help researchers connect, clean, and prepare data for analysis at scale to lead to new discoveries.
  • Passion for leading a team that will play a significant role in data platform innovation and expanding offerings to support the latest market and technology trends around Integration and Data Management.
  • Able to build strong interpersonal relationships with product team, strategic partners, leadership, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with open source technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Data Science notebooks, and streaming data pipelines.
  • Experience launching software as a service/SaaS.
  • 7+ years’ experience in domina (EHR/Clinical/specimen/genomic data), product management, business analyst, project management, similar or Master's/PhD.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, other relevant field, foreign degree equivalent or relevant domain experience.
