Intake, organize, manage, communicate, and complete all incoming and outgoing confidentiality (CDA), material transfer (MTA), data transfer (DUA), collaboration (COL), and sponsored research agreements (SRA) in a timely manner. Assist Technology Managers (TM) in all level-appropriate intellectual property case management within the Office of Business Development & Strategy.
The primary responsibility of the TA will be the management of the non-financial agreement process, including drafting, negotiating, and executing contracts. MTAs represent the majority of the workload, but include all agreements. This will involve outreach to and constant communications with Fred Hutch investigators to identify new disclosures for data, information, and materials that are being sent to third parties. The TA will also interact with members of the Office of General Counsel and Institutional Review Organization (and possibly others) during the negotiation of contracts to determine optimal agreement language, ensuring that all contracts comply with requirements such as Export Compliance (ITAR, EAR, Denied Parties) and Institutional Review Board (IRB). Protection of Fred Hutch intellectual property will be of highest importance in contract negotiations. The TA will be responsible for identifying any potential conflicts, including language in past agreements and/or 3rd party IP issues. Work flow will be managed appropriately to ensure timely execution of agreements. The TA will be responsible for Inteum (database) data entry, related to non-financial agreements assigned, and will create / update processes related to agreement management.
The TA will assist Technology Managers (TM) in all level-appropriate intellectual property case management within the portfolios. This may include, but is not limited to: Interaction with Fred Hutch investigators; Identification of invention disclosures; Assisting TMs with marketability and/or patentability searches; Patent preparation and filing, including prior art searches; Developing commercialization plans for technologies, writing development and business plans, and assessing intellectual property; Negotiation/processing certain other agreements, such as confidentiality agreements. The TA will also be involved in other office-led initiatives, such as educating Fred Hutch employees in important issues related to intellectual property. Required: Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences or related discipline. Two years related experience.
Preferred: Ph.D. in biomedical sciences or related discipline. Previous experience in technology transfer or business development, or in the pharmaceutical, biotech or legal field.
The TA may be the only connection some Fred Hutch investigators and industry representatives have to the BD&S office; therefore, excellent communications skills and the ability to work with others in a respectful, tactful, and timely manner is absolutely essential. Ability to organize and prioritize a large number of agreements and docket. Ability to work as a team member, including contributing to projects and meetings. Understand what is expected and required, and deliver quality results/input in a timely and productive manner. Willingness to compromise to achieve an optimal result consistent with team expectations and business partner needs. Demonstrate organizational, prioritization, and time management skills to ensure proper management of the material transfer agreement process and adequate contribution to group activities. Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures, while recognizing exceptions to the SOPs and using critical thinking skills to make decisions that limit risk and meet business needs.
