The Hutch Data Commonwealth (HDC) represents a new organization within the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center with a mission to develop new capabilities and resources to facilitate the center’s interaction with large and complex data sets and cutting-edge software tools and technologies. The HDC Software Development team works with the product management group and data scientists to build robust software tools and provide the research community with flexible, extensible, programmatic and interactive access to relevant datasets, analytical tools and visualization toolkits.


In this role, you will work with a small, collaborative team of engineers, product managers, and others – so excellent team, interpersonal, communication skills are also necessary along with a love for coding, and learning new technologies as the need arises.


  • Work alongside a friendly multi-functional team to design, create and support end-to-end software solutions across a range of technologies.
  • Work with product managers and other users to understand and translate business needs to technical requirements.
  • Create and maintain documentation
  • Collaborate with other members of IT staff and end users
  • Willingness to tackle new responsibilities and tasks, as needed
  • Assist in creation of application architecture and design for small projects
  • Collaborate with other members of IT staff and end users

  • Take initiative and ownership.
  • Able to manage and report their own work to meet established deadlines.
  • Provide Tier 3 Support of software, as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field desired
  • Minimum of 3-5 years professional software development experience
  • Demonstrable programming in ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, C#
  • Experience in mobile development, either native or using integrated platforms like Xamarin, NativeScript etc. is a plus.
  • Exposure to developing applications in the .NET CORE environment is a plus
  • Experience developing and consuming REST APIs
  • Experience working on/implementing build, deploy and CI/CD processes
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL etc.
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills
  • UI Development experience using popular JavaScript frameworks like Angular is a plus.
  • Enjoys working in a team environment and has a proven record of positive contributions to the work of the team
