This position provides strategic direction that enables the development and delivery of effective Leave and Accommodation Programs and services supporting employees, management, and HR groups for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.


  • Manages the Leave and Accommodation/Return-To-Work programs by monitoring, coordinating and continuously seeking opportunities to improve process flow and program outcomes.
  • Designs and delivers training to managers, employees’ and others regarding leave and accommodation issues, as well as pay, and benefit status while on leave.
  • Provides knowledge and recommendations to develop and design Leave and Accommodation Management policies and procedures that ensure compliance with State and Federal laws.
  • Provide case management for all leave/workplace accommodation requests, including intake, providing right and responsibilities, analysis and facilitation of the interactive process between the employee and employer by analyzing essential job functions, reviewing personnel and medical records, consulting with management and medical practitioners to affect the best outcome for all parties. Coordinates fitness for duty evaluations.
  • Responsible for the management, direction, operations, development, recognition and evaluation of the leave program and any associated vendor management for assigned programs.
  • Partners with internal and/or external teams when appropriate on initiatives that may impact the Leave/Accommodation Programs. 



  • Minimum of four years of related Human Resources experience
  • Knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Washington Family Care Act (WFCA), Washington State Law Against Discrimination (WALAD), Americans with Disability Act (ADA, ADAAA), and legal issues related to Human Resources
  • Ability to navigate independently as well as in partnership with colleagues to provide what is best for the employee and organizations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills



  • Public speaking experience
  • Experience working with third party disability vendors
