The Research Administrator III will work as part of the Clinical Research Division (CRD) Administrative team under the direction of a Senior Research Administrator. Investigators within the Transplantation Biology Program combine basic and translational research directed at understanding and eliminating major barriers to successful allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The program’s goal has been to use stem cell transplantation to treat patients with malignant and nonmalignant hematologic diseases.

The Research Administrator III will be responsible for providing support to the Program’s administrative team in the areas of finance and administration, grants and contracts, and regulatory compliance, including:

  • Management of grants and contracts awarded by the National Institutes of Health and private foundations, subawards from outside institutions, and commercial research agreements. 
  • Monitoring budget activity to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Preparing budget reports and projections for Principal Investigators (PIs) and the CRD. 
  • Monitoring employee effort and salary allocations and assisting with monthly effort reporting process.
  • Coordinating preparation of new grant applications, reviewing application guidelines, communicating requirements to PIs and administrative staff, and facilitating submission together with relevant departments in Fred Hutch administration.
  • Serving as a liaison to administrative departments within Fred Hutch and at collaborating institutions.
  • Assisting with employee on-/off-boarding and annual merit and performance evaluation processes.
  • Preparing administrative documents and ensuring regulatory compliance for research involving Human Subjects, Vertebrate Animals, and Hazardous Materials.
  • Assisting laboratory personnel with purchasing, shared resources access, and training requirements.



  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Proficient in fiscal and budgetary management.
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills and the ability to communicate effectively with personnel from a variety of levels.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to work independently, soliciting direction or assistance from the Senior Research Administrator as required.
  • Experience in preparing and managing grants and contracts.
  • Experience working in a research organization, a university/medical school setting, or other complex non-profit organization.
