The Accounting team oversees a wide range of financial functions in support of the Hutch’s mission. Team responsibilities include financial reporting, financial policy setting, audit coordination, banking, capital assets, service agreements, tax and regulatory filings, internal and data controls and transaction processing.


The position reports to the Assistant Controller and provides guidance & support to one staff accountant related to the international business unit activities at the Hutch. The position will also works closely with the ~15 strong Accounting team. Key partners include the Assistant Controller, governance boards, program heads and staff of foreign subsidiaries and associated service providers.


Related to Subsidiaries


  • Coordinate all aspects of monthly and annual financial statements per close schedule and provide progress reporting.
  • Review and approve all manual journal entries, monitor all system accounting entries
  • Prepare as need monthly reconciliation schedules
  • Coordinate and act as primary point-of-contact for subsidiary specific audits and related tax issues
  • Responsible for timely filing of regulatory filings including VAT and income tax
  • Functional as point-of-contact offering advice and guidance to subsidiary aligned program staff
  • Implement appropriate subsidiary-specific accounting policies, including but not limited to currency hedging, benefit plan accruals, IFRS compliance, tax and regulatory, etc.
  • Design, implement and/or monitor appropriate internal controls and compliance standards
  • Review monthly currency translation and revaluations entries to subsidiaries.
  • Provide accounting support for cross departmental special projects related to subsidiaries.
  • Research and implement changes to accounting policies.
  • Provide guidance and review monthly revenue recognition entries.


Related to Other duties


  • Preparation of FHCRC consolidated monthly financials for review by Assistant Controller and Controller.
  • Provide support for supervised functions of international subsidiaries as it relates to currency, VAT compliance, and other activities.
  • Implement accounting department and overall Finance initiatives
  • Identify, manage and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Collaborate with key partners to ensure efficient communications and operations
  • Enhance the professional development of direct reports by establishing and monitoring goals and objectives for staff and advising on progress thereon
  • Provide support for the annual audits of FHCRC and all related subsidiaries.



  • Bachelor’s degree in business or Accounting, or equivalent; MBA or CPA desired
  • Six years of experience in general Accounting, including multi-currency and investment accounting
  • A minimum of three years of experience with International Accounting (IFRS) standards.
  • Experience leading process improvement projects
  • Ability to successfully work with both external and internal customers
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, solve problems, and develop enterprise-wide approaches to core processes
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials or similar ERP a plus
