The Emerman Laboratory studies the evolution of HIV and related virused with their hosts.  We are interested in understanding how HIV adapted to humans and how it evades human innate immunity.   Applicant will be responsible for performing laboratory work in support of scientific research to discover and validate interactions between human proteins and HIV.  This is an ideal position for a recent college graduate who wants additional laboratory/scientific experience before going to graduate or professional school. Funding for this position is for two years. Will consider hiring at a higher level for individuals with previous experience working with HIV.




Works under the direction of the Principal Investigator and higher-level laboratory personnel to perform experiments and support experiments of others.    



  • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work.
  • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines.
  • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
  • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays.
  • Interpret and report on experimental results.
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required.




BA/BS in a scientific field required. Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills. Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is expected, but applicant will be trained in all of the techniques to be used in this position.  Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, and some computational skills are pluses.
